About me

Interests	I have always been certain that I want to go into the pediatric specialty of nursing and as I completed my pediatric clinical rotation last spring, my passion for children was further confirmed. Although I am unsure of where I will begin my career I feel a strong calling to go abroad and serve. In September I found out that I had been accepted to volunteer at God’s Littlest Angels in the Kenscoff Mountains above Port-au-Prince, Haiti. I will be living and volunteering in the orphanage from May 24st-June 26th, 2012. God’s Littlest Angels currently cares for around 100 children that range from newborn to 10 years of age. Most of the children are brought to the orphanage because their parents are unable to care for them for various reasons most being related to poverty and inability to support and care for their basic needs. GLA cares for the physical, emotional, and developmental needs of these children with the help of volunteers. As a volunteer I will be feeding, changing, and playing with the children. I will get to build relationships with individual children and focus on their unique developmental needs. GLA also has an intensive care nursery where malnourished and premature infants are given intensive medical care and attention. I will have the opportunity to provide nursing care and love to these infants in addition to the children who are healthy.
