| Introduction | I am a licensed architect with 17 years of experience in the field, 8 years as a regional leader in the sustainability field, and 2 years in a post-disaster recovery in a developing country context. Most recently, I worked for Sean Penn's J/P Haitian Relief Organization. Prior to Haiti, I worked for 15 years in architecture firms, ranging from small and community-based to large and corporate. After the 2004 tsunami in Southeast Asia, I was inspired to re-examine life a bit, and start my own small practice, Echo Studio, which focused on ‘sustainable’ projects, paying particular attention to energy-efficiency and resource conservation. I helped found and run Urban Habitat Chicago, a nonprofit that promoted sustainable concepts and practices, specifically urban agriculture. I also helped bring the building deconstruction industry to Chicago, along with encouraging materials reuse, joining the board of the Delta Institute Rebuilding Exchange. I'm a certified consultant for Passive House, one of the highest-efficiency design standards in the world, an amateur composer, and I like ghost stories. |
