| Introduction | As a "re-wired" sociologist, I've shifted my emphasis from a continuing interest in Disability Studies to a different type of "social movement," still only faintly-emerging and closely linked to computer-mediated communication: specifically, I'm researching the growing "user" involvement in defining terms in dictionaries. My broad interest in the Sociology of Language stems partly from having had multi-lingual immigrant parents who wanted their children to assimilate thoroughly to US culture. To do that, they kept us from learning their native languages. More's the pity! But on the plus side, they instilled fascination with languages and dictionaries. |
