Introduction | Steve Hinch has explored the western United States for five decades, either on his own or with other photographers on multi-day expeditions. A recognized expert on GPS navigation, he has taught courses to police and fire personnel, search-and-rescue teams, hunters, hikers, and backpackers since 2001. His book, Outdoor Navigation with GPS (now in its third edition), is a bestselling guide to the subject. He is also the author of Hiking and Adventure Guide to the Sonoma Coast and Russian River. Steve has 30 years of experience in the high technology industry, including senior management positions in multinational companies. Trained as an electrical engineer, he holds three patents and is the author of Handbook of Surface Mount Technology, which has been called the “bible” of SMT. In 1988 he was awarded the IPC President’s Award for “outstanding service in the advancement of the electronics industry.” He holds B.S. and M.E. degrees from Harvey Mudd College. Steve and his wife live in the heart of the wine country in Santa Rosa, California. He is a highly regarded public speaker and an award-winning photographer who specializes in landscapes of the Southwest. |
