About me

Introduction In 2005 Thomas decided to become a full-time writer. Then he got the chance to train other writers across the UK. He’s since worked with more than 30 major organizations. Looking back it all follows a thread: the quest to explain. Thomas grew up in Watford and went to Emmanuel College, Cambridge, having dropped his Cub Scouts Best Kept Tent certificate in with the application. He picked up more papers (MA, PGCE, FRGS) and a writing bug that led him to Websters International then Dorling Kindersley, where editing geography books launched him into teaching. In 1999 on a napkin in a bar, he and friend Toby Reid sketched plans for a media service that would open up city culture for young professionals. Seven years and several hundred cocktail parties on they sold Heath Reid & People to Invitation Media. The idea that explaining is a serious art guides his writing, the techniques he teaches and the way he aims to work: effective, elegant and ethical. His office is a garden beach hut (no sea view yet). He uses bikes and trains, smart technology, fresh air and very little paper.
