| Introduction | This blog is not about me but I need to let you know something about my background so here goes. My name is Jim Appleton aka Syd. I work as a sound engineer for Kenny Ball and his jazzmen and have done for the last eight years. Previously in the rock music business I got into Jazz in 1976 as roadie for Bob Kerr's Whoopee Band before moving on to Max Collie's Rhythm Aces until 1982. I came off the road for a few years full time when my children were young and returned in 1992 to join Monty Sunshine's band. Monty retired in 1998 through ill health and I spent the next year with Terry Lightfoot's band before Joining Kenny Ball in spring 2000. During that time I have been privileged to do the sound at Giants of Jazz concerts for Humphrey Lyttelton's band, Acker Bilk and his Paramount Jazzband, George Melly with John Chilton's Feetwarmers and Digby Fairweather's half dozen. Toured extensively in Europe with Phil Mason's New Orleans Allstars when commitments allowed + mixed numerous bands at various Jazz festivals in the UK and Europe... That's enough of that. |
