| Introduction | In May of 2010, after returning from living in Colombia, traveling in Mexico, and volunteering in Haiti, I fed my wanderlust by applying for the Peace Corps. In March 2011, I swore in and began my service as an English teaching volunteer in Los Santos, Panama. After two years, when most volunteers happily close out their service and fly home to the land of plenty, I decided I wasn't finished yet. Year 3 on the isthmus has me more mobile as a regional project coordinator for the Peace Corps. Here, we practice something called "echar cuento," which literally translated means "throw stories." Here I hope to do just that, and maybe you will get a sense of what a strangely, exasperatingly, and fantastically dichotomous place Panama is. |
