| Introduction | Author, photographer, poet, and songwriter Steven Skelley has been many things including a newspaper columnist, a magazine writer, a news service staff writer, a recording artist, a union factory worker and a minister. His mother and both sisters all passed away in their forties. At age forty-three, Steven battled his own life-threatening illness after being exposed to black mold but survived with a desire to encourage others through his writing, photography and music. His books are published under the names Steven Skelley, Steven Edward Skelley, and S.E. McWilliams (a pen name in honor of his mother). Steven’s sixth great grandfather Abraham was born in Scotland in 1720 but braved the North Atlantic in a wooden ship and began a new life in Pennsylvania. His son Samuel joined the Pennsylvania Militia and fought to free the Colonies from British rule. Steven remembers and honors their legacy of freedom and his own battle for gay equality by wearing a black kilt with rainbow pleating. Skelley is married to his husband Tom.
