Coalition Against Child Abuse

About me

Introduction Currently the coalition has members from civil society and human rights organisations, christian organisations, missionaries, academics, the media and from the general public. What is important is that you are committed to address the problem of child abuse in Africa related to witchcraft and traditional beliefs
Interests In the past decade there has been an upsurge in violence against children in sub-Sahara Africa who have been accused by their families or communities of witchcraft. Children are stigmatized as witches as well as other vulnerable groups in society such as the elderly, refugees or the handicapped. Accusing children of being witches is becoming standard performance for unscrupulous pastors and so-called prophets and apostles who mix Christian and African traditional religious elements so that they can build their reputation of being spiritual experts. The children then are ostracized, abandoned or murdered. The ‘lucky’ ones are put through painful and sometimes dangerous exorcism ordeals but even they will be stigmatized for life. As a coalition of African and International organizations we have put our hands together to address this issue in our African societies.
