Introduction Our journey to America is re-lived through the translation of our mom's diary. A forty-eight hour trip that began in Germany and ended in Chicago on Jan 21, 1951. I never knew any details before. The travel had made my mother ill and she was unable to feed me...her seven week old daughter. She gave me water to keep my belly full and to keep me from crying It was too painful for her to recant this story to us and even so, English was not her first language. Of course she loved music. Don't all Europeans love music? They can't get away from it for it is in their blood as it is in mine. We were fortunate to have neighbors give us a piano. I sincerely doubt my parents could have bought one with four daughters to raise....my dad working at the steel mill...my clever mom...always finding ways to supplement their income. And so begins the story of my journey and continued pursuit of the piano.
