| Introduction | Youth 2000 is a Catholic youth initiative, begun in the UK in 1991, which seeks to help young adults (aged about 16 to 30) to discover Christ and connect with the Church. It works mainly through weekend retreats and local prayer groups, where the focus is put on: the centrality of the Mass and adoration of the Blessed Sacrament; devotion to the Virgin Mary; personal conversion and confession; a clear and attractive presentation of the Scriptures and of authentic Catholic teaching; personal prayer; and meeting other young Catholics. Youth 2000 is a work of evangelisation and catechesis that reaches out especially to lapsed Catholics and non-Catholics. Retreats and prayer groups are run by young Catholics, supported by priests and religious. The aim is not to form a movement, but to lead young people to be more committed to their faith and more involved in their parishes and dioceses. |
