| Introduction | Makoto Taiko was established in 1999. The ensemble currently performs under the instruction of Koji Nakamura, former leader of the Shumei Taiko Ensemble, and 2007 Grammy® Award-winner as an artist on Paul Winter's CD album, "Crestone". In 2009, Makoto Taiko celebrated its 10th Anniversary with a concert attended by roughly 800 people featuring collaborations with accomplished guest artists including multi-time Grammy® Award-winner Paul Winter, Tibetan singer Yanjin Lamu and Grand Taiko Master Seiichi Tanaka. Makoto Taiko strives to elevate spiritual sentiment in the performers and the audience members through playing a traditional Japanese percussion instrument known as “Taiko”. The group’s drumming serves as a bridge among different cultures and encourages global understanding that transcends language and words. Makoto Taiko performs regularly at many events and venues throughout the Unites States including the Prayer Vigil in Washington D.C., the Catskill Mountain Culture Festival in New York, the Residence of the Consul General of Japan in Los Angeles, the Cathedral of the Lady of Angels in Los Angeles and more. |
