| Introduction | Born in Augusta, Georgia, I grew up in Barnwell, South Carolina. Photography started early in the family; my grandmother had a bellows camera as a girl, and my dad, a Kodak Retina with which he began taking Kodachrome slides in 1940. I picked up the hobby and worked my way through Brownies to TLRs to 35mm SLRs to digital SLRs. In 1961 my family moved to Florida. I married a fellow FSU student, Sheila Wexler, after graduation in 1965. In the 1970s we earned grad degrees at the U of Florida. In 1976 we moved to the Washington, DC area, and made Alexandria, Virginia our home. Our son, Blair, lives nearby with our grandkids. In 2007 I retired from PBS after a 42-year career in the broadcasting industry. My other hobbies include ham radio (K4HQK), genealogy, and playing timpani in a symphony orchestra. |
