| Introduction | Mary Lane Potter (formerly Mary Potter Engel) earned her B.A. from Calvin College in philosophy and English, her Ph.D. in Christian Theology from the University of Chicago Divinity School, and her M.F.A. in creative writing from Warren Wilson College. After teaching in Christian seminaries for 12 years, she converted to Judaism and became a fiction writer. She just completed a spiritual autobiography entitled SEEKING GOD AND LOSING THE WAY: A STORY OF THREE CONVERSIONS, a reflection on Christianity, Judaism, Hasidism, and Sufism. She is the author of the novel A WOMAN OF SALT and the story collection STRANGERS AND SOJOURNERS(both Counterpoint Press), as well as numerous theology and spirituality books and articles.
