Sponges and tongues are frequently misspelled. Is it because both are thirsty?
I was a diver in high school. divers do not generally get sand in their suits when at the beach, because we like suits that will not fall off when we jump off a platform 10 meters up in the air and do a bunch of spinning before we land in the water. Cuz, well, losing your suit in competition would be embarrassing.
