Introduction Episcopal laywoman in recovery from the deadly, life-sucking disease of alcoholism, calligrapher and lover of liturgy, laughter, rocks, shells, babies, and birds, not necessarily in that order. I know now that since the liturgical reforms of the 1960s my desire has been to relate faith and life, making them one, a seamless whole with each informing & expanding the other. In my last year at UCSB, headed for the convent, I met the amazing Gordon Buck and married. In the 80s I discovered Julian of Norwich and realized that I lived, with her, with one window into the church and the other into the town square . Through the darkest of times and countless seasons of life, God has never let me stray TOO far. This blog exists to share my daily meditation verse. The God I know in Jesus Christ is not tight and rule-bound, but rather expands hearts and horizons. His harshest judgements were on the religious authorities of his day, the rule keepers and bean counters. Ours is the God who delights in creation, who made the sky not just blue, but a Tiepolo Sky.

The verses are almost always from the Daily Lectionary readings found in the Episcopal Book of Common Prayer. The psalms are the Prayer Book translation because they sing themselves in my heart. they are set out as poetry, which "corresponds to Hebrew versification."(BCP)
Favorite Music Biblical translations are generally from the New Revised Version. SInce it's my verse from Lectio divina, it may not be the whole verse, but you can look it up if you like.  Saints days, biographical information, quotes, much of the factual commentary and the suggestions for prayers are from various sources, but largely from the wonderful Lutheran New Book of Festivals and Commemorations, the Episcopal Lesser Feasts and Fasts and the wonderful Give us this Day published by Liturgical Press. Most of the artwork is from the internet, may be subject to copyright and is used with gratitude and is not used for any other purpose than to emliven faith. Enjoy and may you be filled with all the fullness of God.
