Introduction	I retired as professor of contemporary history in 2001 from Glasgow Caledonian University, and now live in north east England. I'm the author of various books and articles relating to the British and international communist movement, and also critiques of postmodernism in history. I was a member of the Communist Party from 1962 until its disbandment in 1991 and axctive in various aspects of the organisation. I'm currently joint chair of the Socialist History Society, and a not very active member of the Green Party.
