IntroductionI’ve spent years walking in the woods. This is what I am drawn to; the beauty of quiet moments, the rhythms of nature, reflections of tree trunks, golden orange leaves in a tiny fractured pool of water, embers and smoke from a dying fire, and topaz, too. I am a translator. I make these moments large in watercolor. Sometimes I focus on the details of a fallen tree, a tuft of grass, a disintegrating tree stump, a puddle of water full of leaves; all in various stages of decay, but still part of the world, part of the landscape, and still dynamic and even beautiful. Simultaneously drawn to the beauty of these small moments and overwhelmed by their chaos and complexity, I am compelled to reign that chaos in, control it, understand it, organize it. These paintings are a way for me to come to terms with the wild, unpredictability of nature while allaying my own anxiety at the uncontrollable aspects of living (and dying) in this world. The paintings are a metaphor for creating peace in the chaos of daily life. Contact: silverpigment@yahoo.com
