InterestsI love food! I might not "show it" but that's more due to intestinal issues and allergies and now...diet. I've always **tried** to eat healthy..."light" foods, vegetarian, etc etc but then ended up gluten-free and NOT by choice. Being gluten-free and living in a small rural community with only "Mickey-D's" and sandwich/pizza places to eat (and a love of more exciting food anyways)...I learned to cook. No, to cook better. I couldn't just settle on steak and potatoes, so I learned some tools and tricks to make good food. And then. Then I got very very ill, even though nothing was "wrong" with me aside from the scary symptoms. I went on a rice and jello diet per my doctor and felt no better. I saw a friend who is a dietician and herbalist and she suggested the GAPS diet, and starting at stage 1. So far...it has helped. And back to just cooking/food in general, I love gardening, even though I'm awful at it. Pulling a tomato off my vine to serve for dinner is so....magical. Being that I wanted to be healthy and have always been "creeped out" by weird ingredients in food that don't belong there (I'm looking at you, propylene glycol, msg, maltodextrin, potassium bromate, dimethlypoly.....why am I in chemistry class...) so I began to can and do other things from scratch. I learned to home-smoke meats, make my own beer, and now I'm dabbling in home fermentation and homemade condiments. Food made of, well, food tastes so much better. So...this is my journey with food. What you love the most hurts you the most some say, so this is my journey to not be hurt by food. To share my experiences and recipes so others may heal through food as well.
