Introduction It was a bitter day when King Ahab, the king of Israel, appeared in Naboth's vineyard with a demand: "Let me have your vineyard to use for a vegetable garden, since it is close to my palace. In exchange I will give you a better vineyard or, if you prefer, I will pay you whatever it is worth." And, Naboth's very telling reply alerts us to the fact that this is not merely a real estate exchange deal. "The Lord forbid that I should give you the inheritance of my ancestors." This simple, direct, and straightforward reply would end with Naboth's death, but not his story. Today Christians are faced with a similar dilemma. Give up the heritage of faith we received from our ancestors in the faith. In return we are promised something "better" that will inevitably be nothing but a cheap imitation of our historic faith. How are we, then, to live in this post-Christian world?
