About me

Location Sonora, California, United States
Introduction My parents named me Steven Douglas, presumably because they liked the name. But later Dad told me I was named after a great orator and politician. In grade school I discovered that Steven Douglas was the one who lost all the debates -- and eventually the presidency -- to Abraham Lincoln! So why didn't they name me "Abraham," after our greatest president? But I'm content to take my place in the ranks of the "also ran!" Yes, I'm comfortable with my name, and with who I am -- though surely not content to stay in such an unfinished state. I'm 63 years old, married 42 years to my lovely bride, Karen. We are the proud parents of a son, Peter, now in heaven, and three daughters, Holly, Heather and Heidi, who are a taste of heaven to us -- especially with the three sons-in-law and 11 grandchildren they've given us! I count my blessings, but I've really got to count high! I'm a pastor, a musician, and a writer. But I answer the question, "What defines you?" in one sentence (the cryptic answer a clever woman gave to a potential suitor asking about her age): "I'm as old as everything I've ever done, and as young as all that I still want to do."
