Introduction I am inspired by everything and sometimes nothing—the materials themselves often dictate the forms and images that emerge. At other times, stimulus comes from the mundane existence of my everyday life as a woman and as a parent. The vibrant colors and rich textures found in the work of artists like Kandinsky, Matisse and Miro serve as a wellspring of inspiration in their use of color and texture to subvert artistic norms, thereby avoiding categorization. Much like Miro, who worked in many mediums from painting and drawing to fibers, I see materials like wool, silk, or cotton as an invitation to the artist to experiment and play with form and content. Fiber builds bridges by allowing the artist to use color like a painter and form like a sculptor in a fully realized configuration, making manifest the visual, the tactile and kinesthetic nature of art.
