| Introduction | Hi - This is my Blog Space to capture thoughts and ideas that are floating around in my head as I contemplate writing a story about my Mother's "Letters to my Brothers - During the War - WW2". My Mother (Catherine McGuire Shannon) grew up in north-eastern Nebraska on a farm with 15 siblings - thirteen boys and twin sisters. During WW2, Mom became the editor-n-chief of a weekly Letter that went out to her eight brothers serving in the war as they joined the free worlds effort to put an end to Hitler and his fascists allies. This is a story of ordinary people being called to give their fullest measure for the cause of liberty and freedom that we as subsequent generations have taken for granted. But what makes this story compelling is that it illustrates that in times of crises, when everything is turned on its head and no one is certain what to do, some people have hidden strengths and talents that make the difference between victory and defeat. |
