| Introduction | Reasons I feel qualified to hold forth on the topic of sexism: 1) I’ve spent years scrutinizing sciences that might throw light on the origin of our sexist society (history, prehistory, mythology, religion, sociology, psychology, archeology, anthropology); 2) I’ve both lived through much of the feminist movement and, as a female wage-earner, personally experienced its ups and downs. I've also been lucky to have relationships with men who practice gender equality, so to me it's only natural to include a male perspective in any argument to complement my own. I studied at the University of Uppsala in Sweden (where I was born and raised), at the Sorbonne in France and at the New School in the United States; I have got two MA degrees. But my stint as domestic worker in the US before I got my work permit still stands out as the most instructive of all my universities. Other jobs I've had: editor at a publishing house, television producer and director, store clerk, language teacher, home aid, radio reporter, writer of articles, novels, plays. |
