Introduction	Hello, my name is Helgi Olafson. I am twenty nine and have been diagnosed with Ankylosing Spondylitis for ten years. I am on the road to becoming a professional triathlete and I am looking for support to help raise awareness for Ankylosing Spondylitis. Ankylosing Spondylitis is a form of auto-immune, inflammatory arthritis that primarily affects the spine, although other joints can become involved. It causes inflammation of the spinal joints (vertebrae) that can lead to severe, chronic pain and discomfort. In the most advanced cases (but not in all cases), this inflammation can lead to new bone formation on the spine, causing the spine to fuse in a fixed, immobile position, sometimes creating a forward-stooped posture. In some of the worst cases, progression could get as far as complete fusion of the entire spine and even some of the pelvic region and sacroilliac joints.
