About me

Introduction Science is both a career and a hobby for me. I have always been interested in biology, especially genetics. I was shocked to discover, in middle age, that I have Gorlin Syndrome (type 1; also called Basal Cell Naevus Syndrome), but it explained many things that had already happened in my life. Like around 30% or more people with GS, I have a "new mutation"; my parents did not have GS. That lack of a family history delayed my diagnosis by years, because I knew that GS is inherited as a dominant characteristic. I want to inform and contact others with GS, especially in Australia. We now have a mutual support group! The Adelaide group has met for lunch several times. In time, the other states may do the same. There must be hundreds of us in Australia; the incidence is around 1 in 50,000. I hope that what I write in this blog is interesting and encouraging for others. Much will concern the research in related issues, because of my science focus. (You can soon know more about GS than your doctors.) Please make contact and ask questions; I will try to provide answers. At least I can put you in contact with the rest of the group, which mainly operates via email.
