Introduction I grew up in Detroit, attended Lutheran High West, met my wife (whom I still admire) at Valparaiso University. I taught at LHW, learning in the process that you can't go home again, Then went to Concordia Lutheran Seminary in Ft.Wayne, also Harvard Divinity School (MA). I then pastored in NJ 5 years, accumulating 4 children by then. I returned to Detroit as headmaster at 3 Lutheran Schools. I spent all my time with work or family. For 20 years, we read to the kids nightly. I miss it (actually went through withdrawal). I helped organize a charter school & served as hospital chaplain 2001. The 3 schools I served closed due to demographic change in Detroit, but when life gives lemons you make lemonade and I wrote a doctoral dissertation on it for Detroit's Ecumenical Theological Seminary, to go along with my Specialist's in Educational Administration from Wayne State University. Currently, I pastor St. John's Lutheran Church in the blue-collar suburb of Taylor (11th year), teach adjunct at Concordia University, Ann Arbor, and serve on our State Board of Education, after winning statewide election in 2010.
