Introduction | I made a lifetime commitment (some say a "passion") to practice Okinawa Goju Ryu karate-do. I began training in 1977 (at Chuck Merriman's Karate International in New London, Connecticut), and I remain a student of Merriman Sensei to this day. I currently have a small dojo at the GSA Central Office Fitness Center, where I train during my lunch break at work -- most days with a handful of dedicated students. Outside of the dojo (and away from work), I am actively involved in the activities of both of my kids, Riki and Payton, and I enjoy bringing them to their sports, school and social activities. |
Interests | I enjoy studying history and learning about Asian culture (particularly Okinawan, Japanese and recently Chinese). I've learned a tiny bit of Japanese and struggle to learn more. I'd like to begin learning to read Chinese. |
Favorite Movies | My biggest "vice" is watching movies (both at the theater and at home). Hard to chose an absolute favorite, but I guess I'll go with the Last Samurai, and with the Incredibles as my favorite annimated film. This year I very much enjoyed Taken (Liam Neesom) and Star Trek. |
Favorite Music | I grew up with classic rock'n'roll, disobeying my parents by listening to the Beatles when their music arrived in America. 40 plus years later, I still get the Led out and enjoy many others, such as Dylan, Sir Elton, the Stones, Simon and Garfunkel, Santana, and many more. |
Favorite Books | More of a fan of authors than particular books, and I lean toward histrical fiction works. James Clavell (Whirlwind), Ken Follet (Pillars of the Earth), Wilbur Smith (River God) and Tom Clancy (Without Remorse) top the list. |
