| Introduction | I grew up in the Dakotas, but have spent half of the past 18 years abroad, visiting or living in nearly 20 countries. I’ve worked as a teacher in Taiwan and China, trained teachers in West Africa, and managed education projects in Angola. Most recently I spent 6 years in Sudan and Kenya, where I directed Sudan Radio Service, a broadcast intended to support peace and development in Sudan. Other highlights in my media career include: anchoring and reporting for KXMC-TV in Minot; anchoring and reporting for KLBJ-AM in Austin, Texas; and working for several other radio stations in ND. I was also the first program director for Minot State University’s on-campus radio station. I obtained a Bachelor of Science in Education degree from Minot State University in 1994, majoring in English and Communications. I am now at NDSU hoping to complete a master’s degree in Communication. I love to travel and experience other cultures (though I am enjoying my time back in the US). I speak Portuguese, a West African Creole, Mandarin Chinese, and a bit of French, Kiswahili, and even Sudanese Arabic, all of which help me make new friends amongst Fargo’s diverse immigrant community. |
