Introduction This blog is on the unfairness of state education aid in New Jersey. My hope for this blog is that it will shatter myths about SFRA being applied and inform readers about why tax burdens between different towns are so different. My hope is that this will lay the groundwork for a fairer distribution of state aid, where suburbs and low-resource non-Abbotts would be treated better. My premises are the following: 1. School funding is critically important. 2. SFRA is a good law, but its funding targets are unreachable and the current funding level is unsustainable in light of the pension crisis. 3. State aid therefore is zero-sum. 4. Tax strain and school budgetary problems are uneven across New Jersey due in part because of uneven school aid. 5. Redistribution is necessary.
