About me

Introduction I am an active duty Army soldier's housewife, and a former GS-12 IT Specialist who resigned in 2007 in order to have our first child while stationed overseas. My husband spent two 14-month tours in Afghanistan, one of which was 4-weeks following the birth of our son.
Interests I began championing family-centered fitness programs for military families in Bamberg, Germany in 2007 because there was a desperate need and no other champion. I successfully led a campaign (collecting 500 signatures of interested participants in 1 week) to reserve an area where mothers (the vast majority of whom were raising children single-handedly due to deployed spouses) could bring their infants in strollers or carriers to exercise with them. Simultaneously, at Kaiserslautern, Stuttgart, and Grafenwoehr fitness facilities in Germany, three other military spouses who are also certified fitness trainers, witnessed a similar need and began offering free fitness instruction to support families. Their courses have since been flooded with participants. I respectfully suggest that it is now time for the US Armed Forces to step up with a permanent solution which will provide adequate financial support of fitness programs (and personnel) serving military families. I believe that if The President approves the designation of 2009 as "the year of the military family", it would present a unique opportunity to bring nationwide focus to this cause.
