| Introduction | I have been cooking since I was a kid. I remember when I was about 2, all I wanted in the world was a Bette Crocker EZ Bake Oven. I never got one, back in the mid-60's gender roles were still strongly enforced! Though I was encouraged to cook and have for most of my life, I have never had any formal training. I have, on a few occasions, worked in professional kitchens but never truly enjoyed it. I find that if food is a hobby, I enjoy it much more. If it becomes work, I stop cooking at home. I love to experiment so you're apt to see some strange stuff on here from time to time. My wife and I eat very little processed food, choosing instead to make much of what we eat ourselves. We keep chickens and have a vegetable garden, always trying to eat as fresh as we can. Living in Portland, we have lots of wonderful local ingredients available, but also a wide assortment of ethnic markets. There's no telling what will end up in our kitchen! |
