| Introduction | Complex systems create emergence. A complex system can also be thought of as "chaos." Jim Muench and Pete Anger are interested in emergence, the principle that drives the universe. They developed the idea over years of discussion and study. We hope that others might be interested in this basic principle. Emergence can be seen as integral to such fields as art, science, economics, history, religion and philosophy. But perhaps most important is the application of emergence to explain where we are going. Anger and Muench believe, as many other profound writers have suggested, that we are headed for something new. The increasing complexity of our society appears to be emerging toward a new reality, an incidence of emergence that may give us a different way of life. While we don't know what that new reality will look like, we have begun to speculate, and we hope others might add their thoughts as well. |
