| Introduction | I'm a former journalist now working as an editor for a small startup catering to writers and aspiring writers. I'm also a perfectionist, trying to learn not to be a perfectionist. At work, being a perfectionist isn't so bad. With it comes attention to detail (key for editing!), relentless determination to get a project right, organization, etc. Pretty good stuff for work. At life, I'm learning that being a perfectionist isn't so cool. It's brutal before having people over (The dog hair to sweep! The clutter to clear! The horror!). It's debilitating when it comes to starting a home-improvement project (Where are the drop cloths?! How will we not make a mess?!). And for the significant other, well, you get the drift. In this blog, I hope to expose just how ridiculous this little perfectionist enterprise really is. And then I hope to kick this habit, one achingly honest post at a time. Perfection may look good (though I suspect it probably does not), but imperfection has got to be a whole lot easier, way more fun, and definitely more interesting. |
