Introduction In high school I ran track and cross country, but grew tired of training and gave it up after I graduated. But in 2006 my daughter and son-in-law ran the Twin Cities Marathon. I loved the atmosphere and got the itch to run one myself as a personal challenge at age 50. So after a 32 year absence from the sport I began training for the 2007 Twin Cities Marathon, thinking I would retire from the sport again at the end of the race. I foolishly trained like I was still 18 and suffered injuries all summer, but still lined up with thousands of others and finished with a time of 4 hrs 37 minutes. Adrenalin propelled me to the finish despite walking periodically during the final 6 miles. I was happy I finished, but realized I could do better if I trained properly. So two weeks later I began training the right way and haven't stopped since. I run 6 days a week, 52 weeks a year and completed 15 marathons including Chicago, Boston, New York City, and Big Sur. My best time is 3:11:44 at the 2011 Grandma's Marathon. I enjoy racing all distances from 1 mile to marathon and try to race each month. I hope my renewed love affair with the sport continues for many more years!
