Introduction | The title of this web blog is a neologism created by Yago S. Cura: a compound of the derogatory word for Latinos, "spic," and the Spanish literary tradition, "Picaresque," from which the modern novel descends. Yago's poetry has appeared in Lungfull!, Borderlands, COMBO, LIT, U.S. Latino Review, PALABRA, Exquisite Corpse, Field, Slope, and The New Orleans Review. Yago's reviews have appeared in The St. Mark's Poetry Project Newsletter. In 2008, Yago was one of many narrators of the "Human Resources" episode of National Public Radio's "This American Life" that highlighted the NYC/DOE's gulag for alleged-against teachers: the Rubberroom. Yago's poetry manuscript, Spicaresque, was a finalist in the National Poetry Series and the Andres Montoya Poetry Prize. |
Interests | belles, lettres, multi-media studies, Latino studies, ethnic studies, desk-top publishing, zines, film, Spanglish. |
Favorite Movies | I am a Cohen brothers' whore with a minor in most anything Terry Gilliam has directed. Lately, I've been on this Korean movie kick and I loved, The Host, and gushed after seeing, Oldboy. I was completely floored by a little American movie called, Police Beat, the other day. Also love documentaries like, The Agronomist, The Weather Underground, and Why We Fight. |
Favorite Music | My ears have no predilection for any audible parameters. |
Favorite Books | I am a mercenary lector, a Hessian of Literacy. |
What should you do if you are at a Dutch resort on the North Sea and an eight foot Lego man comes floating towards you?
