| Introduction | A while back, when I was in college, I started writing in the back of a book, THE ROAD TO WIGAN PIER, how one day I would want my novel to begin: "But an autobiography is only a story. A story of how I have seen things through a particular lens at a particular time; it is only when we question the quality of that kaleidoscopic lens, the thousands of pixels it provides but the hundreds of thousands it excludes, that we begin to question the validity of our own stories that we so seamlessly stow away in the deep drawers of the big, black filing cabinet; so unquestionably, labeled as fact to then be retrieved and read every subsequent time as such.
