IntroductionCal Poly Alternative Breaks is a program that offers an alternative to the usual college holiday activities. Instead of a mere vacation, we seek to travel to communities in need and lend a helping hand. In the process of volunteering, participants gain a better understanding of the local culture, as well as an appreciation for getting involved on a local & global scale. The trips consist of service days mixed with free time to explore and enjoy the area and take in the culture and surroundings. We feel free time is important to connecting with the community being served and necessary for rest and reflection. Alternative Break trips tend to be about a week long, with about 10-15 participants. All Cal Poly students are welcome, no matter what your major or year. All we look for is a dedication to service and a positive outlook. We work out of The Cal Poly Community Center, located in the Student Life & Leadership department.
