| Introduction | We completed the Great Loop around the eastern United States on our sailboat Pelican, a Jeanneau 43DS, in 2003-2004, traveling through the rivers from downtown Chicago to Mobile, AL, then around Florida and, after a side trip to the Bahamas, up the East Coast, ending back in Lake Superior. After a few winters covered by snow in Bayfield, WI, Pelican migrated south again at the end of August 2007. Instead of doing the Loop we traveled through the Great Lakes to the Erie Canal, down the Hudson River to NYC, then through the Intracoastal Waterway to Florida. We crossed to the Bahamas and visited Nassau, the Exumas, and the Abacos before returning to the Chesapeake in the spring of 2008. Pelican has been "on the hard" in Deltaville ever since. Now in the fall of 2013, it's time to splash again and make another trip down the East Coast and to the Bahamas. |
