IntroductionOriginally I set out to study the construction methods pertaining to a particular Elizabethan Swete Bag, currently held at the Metropolitan Museum, linked to on my homepage. However, since the publication of Elizabethan Stitches by Jacqui Carey, I have decided all the puzzles have been solved and so grew restless for new frontiers... For the last 2 years I've been working on Stem Stitch and carefully studying all its applications. Its my personal belief that Stem Stitch is severely underused, by today's standards and it originally formed the basis of many embroidery stitches and their techniques. Comments welcome!
