Introduction I started off buying compilation albums but then I started to buy 'artist specific' Christmas albums. I soon discovered that this is predominantly an American thing. Quite a number of American artists have released holiday albums. In Britain it tends to be more middle-of-the-road singers - Cliff, Michael Ball, Joe Longthorne, Daniel O'Donnell, Aled Jones, Julie Andrews, Des O'Connor etc. Although Billy Idol did release a Christmas album in 2006! In Britain groups & singers tend to release singles or EPs instead. Before TV talent shows the Christmas No. 1 was really exciting. With the exception of something like Band Aid, no-one can compete now because of all the free publicity. Having said that, one of my favourite Christmas albums is the one by the Pop Idols of 2003! I'm fortunate to work in a shop that doesn't play music over the P.A. system so I can enjoy it when I get home. Noddy Holder was in the shop a few weeks ago and it would have made my day if he'd shouted "It's Christmaaaaaas!" Just for the record I'm not an expert or a serious collector.
