| Introduction | As a visitor to Palau in 1995, I saw hundreds of sharks fins hanging out to dry and vowed to help stop it. I moved to Palau in Jan 1997 and joined the ongoing local battle to save sharks. In 2001, I founded PALAU SHARK SANCTUARY, Palau's first shark conservation organization, with a mission to secure Palau's declaration of its EEZ waters as a shark sanctuary. On September 25, 2009, Palau made that very declaration before the world at the U.N. General Assembly in New York City, thereby creating the worlds first SHARK SANCTUARY.
