| Introduction | I'm Sarah, a 23 year-old dental student. Growing up, I lived a very typical life; that is, until ED turned my world upside down senior year of high school, when my insecurities got the best of me: my weight began to drop, my social life quickly declined, and I hid from the world. I was admitted to an IP program for a month, but managed to make it to college. Not in the best shape, I spent my 3-year college experience doing school work by day and living at home by night. I graduated and moved on to dental school - my dream. I thought to myself, "this is my time". I thought I could run from ED. I could move on with my life. But ED had other plans. ED had a tight grip on me the summer before school. I was admitted to an IP program from May to August of 2009. "THIS is it". I really thought I had done it this time. I was ready to start a new life in dental school. Unfortunately, ED hadn't had enough yet. After one year of dental school, my eating disorder landed me back in the hospital from April to August 2010. I caught up and made it back for the fall semester in my 2nd year of dental school. It's not easy but I'm going to make it through. Follow me on my journey. |
