Introduction	N.F. Perry trained as a journalist after leaving St Peter's, York, where Alcuin was headmaster in the eighth century. He worked in press relations in London, then dropped out to live on an old fishing boat in Crete and then in a monastery. He is co-author (with Chilean historian Loreto Echeverria) of UNDER THE HEEL OF MARY (Routledge 1990) and has published a novel: MEMOIRS OF A FUGITIVE ON MOUNT ATHOS (Amazon Kindle 2014).
