Introduction Published poet, educator, scholar, lecturer, mentor, & advocate. Received a B.A. in Sociology- Wayne State University & M.A. in Social Foundations of Education with a concentration in Cultural Studies from Eastern Michigan University. Awards: Academic Excellence from Dean Vernon Polite at EMU (2008), Community Leadership Fellow for the Center for Community Building & Civic Engagement at EMU (2005), Mayor's Time Community Service Award (2003); Wayne Council for Arts, History & Humanities Best Performer Award (as coach of Detroit Poetry Slam Team- won the National Competition in 2002; member and coach from 1995 to 2004); Detroit Youth Foundation's Best Youth Development Mentorship Project (2002); Nominated for Pushcart Poetry Prize (2002); Nominated for McGuffin Poetry Award (2000). Six Women: Emerging Poets Award (1994). I served as the Incoming Chair of the National Diversity Committee of the National Writers Union- UAW AFL-CIO (1999-2000). During my free time, I am a Producer & Reporter for Encode Media Group. I serve as a board member of Broadside Press in Detroit, & US Africa Trade Alliance...whose founders initiated legal action on behalf of Black Farmers in the United States.
