| Introduction | My parents are from Nueva Ecija, but I was born and raised in Batangas. As a child, I wanted to be a lawyer-journalist. But after completing my AB,Political Science, I stumbled into a classroom to teach English. I've been stuck in teaching ever since. Don't get me wrong. There's a psychic income in teaching, knowing that you are able to touch the hearts and minds of your students. So I shifted gears and majored in English. I wrote three editions of "Spoken English for Filipinos" published by REX Book Store. A part-time graduate student, I finally earned my Ph.D. in Literature from the University of Santo Tomas in 1991. In 2000, I went to Taiwan and taught at Da-Yeh University. I had a wonderful time interacting with students who were eager to learn English. Then I had a short stint as a language specialist at the SEAMEO Regional Language Centre, Singapore. Today, I'm a Visiting Fellow at the National Institute of Education, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore. Oh, by the way, I'm a proud and happy grandmother of two! |
