| Introduction | After a few years of making the same old stuff week after week, I was so bored in the kitchen. I knew how to cook but it felt like such a chore. My husband never complained, but I made the same things over and over (shepherd's pie, tacos, goulash, Hamburger Helper...). I had a few cookbooks collecting dust on a kitchen shelf. In the summer of 2004, I decided to make a change, and "New Recipe Night" was born. At first I made one new recipe each week, then decided, with the help of my try-anything husband, if it was a "keeper" or not. My friend Terri knew I was doing it, and asked me to email her the good ones. Then my mom and my sister wanted the emails, too. So I started (jokingly) calling the emails the New Recipe Night Newsletters and called them my mailing list. Some of the emails were pretty funny...and then more people wanted them. My techie husband set up this blog in 2007. After over 10 years of new recipes, I have a much larger cookbook collection, and a growing recipe file (my Keeper Book) of things that have become new standards. We still eat tacos, shepherd's pie, and goulash once in a while. We no longer eat Hamburger Helper, although I do have fond memories... |
