Introduction I am a long-time observer of political and international news. My areas of news interest are presidential politics and news pertaining to Japan and North Korea.

My research interests include political communication, political cartoons, framing, content analysis, cross-cultural communication, and media effects.

My doctoral dissertation (A Framing Analysis and Model of Barack Obama in Political Cartoons) created an original model of framing that characterizes how political cartoonists arrive at the frames they use to portray their subjects. It also examined cartoonists' treatment of Obama during his 2008 campaign and the first year of his presidency and how the media frames the cartoonists used differed over time.

My career goal is to become a political analyst or commentator for cable news. And in case my wanderlust gets the best of me, I would be happy to work for the Foreign Service in Japan or as a journalist at CNN's Tokyo bureau. Someday I may run for political office, but for now I'm content as a political observer.
