InterestsI express myself primarily through a confluence of writing, drawing and printing which naturally leans towards collage. I draw that which dwells, invisible, within appearances. It is a question of letting another reading emerge, that of reality askew, sometimes monstrous, always fragile. Minimal drawings are traces that have the power to concretize all forms and all stories imaginable. These stories are often told seamlessly in journals or books. These books are intimate and become objects that hold these traces, narrowing the frontier between the public and the private. I apprehend books as one would a staircase. Everything that passes passes through a staircase everything that arrives arrives through a staircase. When I draw in public places I become aware of my surroundings, of the fragile fleetingness of the moment and of the people inhabiting it. The prevailing sense of alienation is questioned through my observations- what separates me from the subject, what unites us? Our senses are perforations that allow experiences to leak between us. The juxtaposition of images and words has played a key role in my work. Words tend to put thought in compartments whereas images are traces, lines that open up into the unknown. The combination brings another reading. What counts when I am drawing is my awareness and flexibility in the face of change and uncertainty. I can never become attached to a posture that I am observing, I must submit myself to the unknown, and just observe. It is like a meditation. Awareness acts as a pivot or a gate in changing the collective biochemical tide. The daily and the mundane are at the root of my work since 2003. I intuitively value the qualities of ambiguity and indeterminacy as an end in its own right.
