About me

Introduction Professor Dawn Field received her PhD from the University of California, San Diego’s Ecology, Behaviour and Evolution Department and completed an NSF / Sloan postdoctoral research fellowship in Molecular Evolution at the University of Oxford. She has led the Molecular Evolution and Bioinformatics Group at the Centre for Ecology and Hydrology since 2000. Her research interests are in molecular evolution, bioinformatics, comparative genomics and metagenomics, standards development, data sharing and policy. She is a Senior Research Fellow at the Oxford eResearch Centre at the University of Oxford. She is a founding member of the Genomic Standards Consortium (http://gensc.org), the BioSharing initiative (http://www.biosharing.org) and the Genomic Observatories Network (http://www.genomicobservatories.org). She is the Director of the NERC Environmental Bioinformatics Centre. Most recently, she has started working with members of the UK environmental 'omics community to launch the NERC Environmental Omics Synthesis (EOS) Centre. She is also workpackage leader of Ocean Sampling Day (http://www.oceansamplingday.org) under the EU-funded Micro B3 project.
